I have a 5-6 minute oral final exam today. I don't know how seriously to take this. First of all, who gives oral exams - in an economics course!? 5 minutes! That's how long it's going to take me to say, "Hi, hopefully you recognize my face from showing up to class and not participating in discussion, but my name's John. Nice to meet you. Ok goodbye. You look lovely, btw. Really lovely." I was looking through facebook and, courtesy of mini-feed, noticed that several of my friends had joined facebook groups from middle and elementary school. My elementary school group is called "Once and Always A Hickory Hound." That made me nostalgic. Random fact: For those of you who know Thomas Kim (Brown/RUF), he used to go to my elementary school! Except we never knew each other. Or saw each other... haha. He apparently moved to Tennessee after 3rd grade, and I started going to Hickory in 4th grade. Weird, huh. Our first conversation as freshmen at Brown went something like this: "Hey, I'm John. Where are you from?" / "I live in Tennessee, but used to live in California." / "Really? I'm from Torrance. What part of Cali are you from?" / "Torrance?! I'm from there too. I went to a school...... the mascot...... had like.......a dog?......and.......kids?......." / "Dogs? Hounds? Hickory! Hickory Hounds!"
Oh the good ol' days. In elementary school: walking in a straight line to lunch (whoever had the straightest line got to go first! man our class sucked at lining up straight!) Playing nation (dodegball). Playing on the monkey bars. Square dancing (I have video of me square dancing! lol). Living in Chicago for a year in 2nd grade (One day during recess, I missed the cue to go back inside and played outside for an extra recess period! Don't ask. Anyways, the teacher let me have my lunch while everyone was in class. It turns out the class was working on "goodbye" cards to me since I was leaving to go back to California. Everyone saw "awww.") And in middle school: running as fast as you can to be first in line. Beating Hull in cross country meets for years (Hull started beating us after our class left, apparently). Falling on my face during a 4x400 relay race against the other PE classes (don't worry, I still beat my guy) Mr. Baltz screaming and yelling at us to run faster. Mr. Henderson always screaming and yelling at us during band (sadly, he had a heart attack and died after we graduated middle school. I still remember the day he came to our class in 4th grade telling people all the different instruments he had and wanted to teach us. I shall miss him). That was fun thinking about elementary/middle school. Anyways, only 2 more weeks until I go home to warm California. Las Vegas this winter break! and of course Morongo! Let's go! If you're <21, you can watch me take people's money at the poker tables. :] It's 27 degrees outside, and my heat is off. I called Facilities today, but they didn't do anything about it. We pay $45,000 to come to Brown, and they let us freeze. I better wake up sweating. I'm cold, so I'm going to reminisce about the summer. Ah, the warmth. Here's me wakeboarding. by a tree. in the middle of the lake.
This was long. That's what you do when you don't want to prepare for a 5 minute oral exam. I shall end this entry with a nice photo of a sunset in Huntington Beach, California.
